How To Avoid Being Too “Salesy”

I received quite an epic testimonial from one of my clients last week (which I will link at the bottom for you to watch if interested).

I happened to be running through his latest podcast episode he had recorded…

Scanning it for any audio issues, potential clips we could use to promote on social media, and also just listening because it was a great topic.

  • Side note: (I highly advise only working with clients you find interesting and genuinely like. It will be a lot easier to deliver results for them because you’ll just naturally want to go above and beyond - this goes for anything).

About an hour into the podcast, I hear his guest say how he's:

“Trying to get a lot better about just putting stuff out into the world, authentically, even if it isn’t perfect, because he knows his offer will help people.”

This sentence mirrored an exact conversation this client and I had about a month prior. So it wasn’t a massive shock when I hear my client name drop me in the podcast immediately.

My client (as you’ll hear in the video if you watch), talks about how he has always struggled with thinking he’s being too “salesy.”

This is something I don’t impose on him at all, but as he’s wanting to step into a bigger role with everything he’s doing at the moment, it’s actually requiring him to become a lot more “salesy” than he has been in the past few years.

It came up when we were on a team call, and his wife (who is totally awesome btw) actually asked me what I thought about the situation, so I gave him my advice, which you’ll be able to listen to in the link below, BUT, before you watch:

There is a pre-requisite involved in this, perhaps the most important pre-requisite in business. I’ve seen it countless of times actually over the years:

I’ve found with a lot of businesses that struggle to market themselves, it just comes down to not believing their product is worthy for others to buy (or even themselves). This is something I actually struggled with a bit back when I was first pitching myself to clients.

And let it be known, this could be true, maybe your product or your service isn’t suitable for others to buy or it’s just not ready for you to sell it yet.

Or it could just be a false voice (that we all have) in our heads that you just need to learn to get over.

I’ll leave that up to you to determine…

But the jist is, have you helped people with what you’re selling? If so, then it’s probably a good product or service.

Anyways, this is what I told him the solution to being too salesy is + another great tip from Dr. Gapin (his guest) on how to view money.

Check it out right here.
